Visitor Visa (VIVIS) – Study, internship

Overview

  • Visitor Visas (VIVIS) are aimed at those travelling to Brazil for maximum stays of up to 90 days, without the intention to establish residence, for the purposes of study (e.g. primary / secondary levels of education, undergraduate / postgraduate degrees, technical and language courses, study / research exchange programs) or supervised academic internship.
  • Please note: the duration of the activities (start and end dates) must be informed in the letter provided by the Brazilian institution to which the applicant will be linked. If the activity is due to last more than 90 days, a Temporary Visa (VITEM IV - Study or VITEM IV - Internship) must be requested.

  • Foreign nationals from countries with which Brazil holds visa exemption agreements benefit from Visitor Visa (VIVIS) waiver.
  • VIVIS holders are strictly forbidden to practice any paid work in Brazil, but are allowed to receive payments from the government, a Brazilian employer or a private entity for the purposes of daily allowances, artistic paychecks, compensation or travel expenses, as well as to receive cash prizes in sports, artistic or cultural competitions.

Length of stay in Brazil

Validity period: limit date / deadline for the first entry in Brazil to take place – counted from the date of issue of the visa.

In general, up to one year. By reciprocity, it can be it can be of 3, 5 or 10 years. For Lebanese citizen, it can be up to three years.

Duration of stay: period during which the individual is allowed to remain in Brazil – counted from the date of first entry in the country.

Up to 90 days. For some countries, by reciprocity, it can be of up to 30 or 60 days, as indicated in the visa requirements table.

Extension of stay: extensions are not automatic and must be requested at the Federal Police before the end of the first granted period.

BLS International Service charge: Any applicant applying at the Brazil visa application Centre shall be levied a service charge of USD 14 (inclusive of tax) payable in cash.

Visa application form

a) Completion instructions:

  • The form must be filled in online.
  • Enter complete information – please note that some fields are mandatory.
  • Parents' names must be entered in full (name and surname), exactly as displayed in the applicant's birth certificate.
  • Upload the digital copies of all documents listed below (items 2 to 7).
  • Click on the "Complete Application" button to generate the Visa Request Form Receipt (RER).

b) After the form is concluded:

  • Print and sign the RER; affix your photo on the indicated field. If the applicant is under 18 years old, the RER must be signed by both parents.
  • Gather all original documents listed below. They must be presented visit to Brazil Visa application center, in addition to the RER.

Valid passport

Must have at least two blank pages. Please note that pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes.

One passport photo

The photo must be recent, against white background, in the local standard specifications (3.5 x 4.5 cm).

Copy of the return ticket

  • Booking reservation or letter from a travel agent containing the applicant's name and complete travel information.

Proof of sufficient financial means, compatible with the entire stay in Brazil

At least one of the following documents must be submitted:

  • Bank statements containing the account holder's name, current balance and transactions from the last 6 months (leading to the week that precedes the visit to Brazil Visa application center); and/or
  • International credit card statements containing the card holder's name, available credit limit and transactions from the last 6 months (leading to the week that precedes the visit to Brazil Visa application center); or
  • Confirmation that the student has been awarded a scholarship / bursary / maintenance grant.

Please note: students being financially supported by their families must submit a declaration signed by the sponsors, in addition to a copy of the identification pages of their passports and recent evidence of financial capacity (see options above).

Proof of regular immigration status in Lebanon

If applicable.

Confirmation that the applicant is taking part in the intended academic activity / is enrolled in a course or has an internship agreement

One of the following documents must be presented, depending on the intended activity:
a) Study: acceptance letter from the Brazilian education or research institution to which the applicant will be linked. The letter must be printed on official letterhead of the institution and contain the following information:

  • Declaration that the applicant is duly enrolled in a course or has been accepted to the intended course / research project;
  • Course / research description, duration, period (include start and end dates of the activities);
  • Declaration confirming that the course has been fully paid (if it is not free of charge) or that the student has been awarded a scholarship / bursary / maintenance grant;
  • The education institution's Corporate Taxpayer Identification Number ("Cadastro Nacional de PessoasJurídicas CNPJ);
  • Details of the person in charge of admissions in Brazil (full name, telephone, e-mail etc.).

b) Supervised academic internship: signed agreement / contract between the intern and the Brazilian institution offering the placement. The document must be printed on official letterhead of the institution and contain the following information:

  • Confirmation that the activities to be undertaken by the intern are compatible with his/her field of studies;
  • Description of the work to be developed during the internship, duration, period (include start and end dates of the activities);
  • Details of the person in charge of supervising the internship in Brazil (full name, telephone, e-mail etc.).

Please note: the signatures on the letters must be certified by a notary public ("tabelião"). The signature authentication will not be necessary if the document is issued by a public-funded (Federal or State) university.

Criminal record

Extract of criminal record (dated less than three months) from all countries where the applicant has resided in the last 12 months, translated into English, French, or Portuguese (for applicants aged 18 years or above). In Lebanon, the criminal record can be obtained through the Internal Security Forces (ISF).

Travel Authorization for children under 18 years

For applicants under 18 years old, in addition to the parent’s signature on the RER form, the presentation of travel authorization signed by both parents, issued by a public notary and legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lebanon.

Please Note:

  1. - Further documents and information might be requested by Brazil consular agents;
  2. - Presentation of older passports, especially of containing visas and/or stamps, is highly recommended.
  3. - The applicant must schedule an appointment before visiting Brazil Visa application Center. No application will be received without an appointment.

Process Time

- The applicant will receive notification SMS when his passport is ready for collection from Brazil Visa Application center.

Please note that the Brazil Visa application Center in Beirut does not process same day visas (no rush fee).

Photo Specifications

Please provide one recent photograph (not more than 6 months old) of yourself, which should not have been used previously in the passport. The photograph should be in color and:

  • Taken against white background so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background.
  • Clear share quality and with the face in focus.
  • Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print).
  • Full face, non-smiling [without sunglasses, a hat/cap or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of their religious belief or ethnic background]
  • Please stick the Photograph on the RER printed Form.

Note: Please follow these instructions carefully. If photographs presented do not meet these requirements your application will be considered incomplete. A photo booth meeting these requirements is available at the Brazil Visa Application Center.

Remark

  • The requirements for Academic research, scientific cooperation, academic extension programs, and visiting professors visa are the same for all nationalities.
  • The visa application should be submitted by:
    1. The applicant in person at Brazil Visa application Center office;
    2. Family member properly identified and dully authorized; or
    3. Third person with written authorization. Nevertheless, the bearer of the passport has to be in Lebanon when the visa will be granted, even if the application was presented through a third party. Travel agencies cannot apply for visas.
  • Applications, which are filled and submitted online, may not be sent by e-mail.

Please note that the application form completed (to be filled out on-line) is valid for one month only; if you come to Brazil Visa application Center office to submit your application after that period it will be necessary to complete (fill out) another form.

Minors under 18 years traveling to Brazil must have the application signed by both parents in front of the Consular Authority. If one of the parents is out of Lebanon, he/she must provide the original of a written authorization, notarized by the Lebanese Consulate of the country he/she is in.

Non-residents in Lebanon can apply for a tourist visa, provided they fulfill the above mentioned requirements.

It is recommended that Brazilian citizen, even if he/she has another nationality, presents his/her Brazilian passport when entering or leaving Brazil.

  • Please note that issuing or denying a visa is a sovereign act of Governments. The kind of visa, its granting and its validity are also a sovereign decision of the Embassy. No discussion on this matter will be accepted and the Brazil Visa application Center does not have to justify why a visa is not granted. It is advised to be sure that the visa was approved before buying a ticket. The Brazil Visa application Center in Beirut is not responsible for any cancellation fee incurred, in case a visa is denied.

The entry visa, in any case, is an expectation of right. The entrance of foreign citizens and permanence in Brazil may be prohibited by decision of the Ministry of Justice and enforced by the Federal Police.
